- Gas prices: U.S. EIA, Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update — U.S. Regular Gasoline Retail Prices (all taxes included). Week of 2026-11-02 (released 2026-11-03; retrieved 2026-11-03). EIA publishes weekly prices for nine states; for the others we use the state’s EIA region, shown on each page. Regions follow EIA’s map of states in each region.
- Electricity: U.S. EIA, Electric Power Monthly Table 5.6.A — Average residential price of electricity by state (2026 values preliminary). August 2026 data (released 2026-10-23; retrieved 2026-11-03). Converted from cents per kWh.
- Example car and driving: 28 MPG gas car, 3.5 mi/kWh EV, 12,000 miles a year. These are the calculator’s editable starting values, not measurements of any specific vehicle.
- Public charging $0.45/kWh: an editable assumption, not sourced data. Used only in the “80% home” column.
- Energy cost only. Leaves out purchase price, incentives, insurance, maintenance, charger install and time-of-use rates.
